Description:Location: Blair-Caldwell African American Research Branch Library, 2401 Welton St.

Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours.

Background Information: The key role of this branchís service delivery id to serve as an educational and cultural resource for the people of Denver, Colorado, and the world, focusing on the history, literature, art, music, religion, and politics of African Americans in Colorado and throughout the Rocky Mountain West.
Duties:Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers by providing reference service, computer instruction, readers and media advisory, and collection maintenance, including some archival manuscript processing and maintenance of departmental reference integrity. Uses electronic resources and an extensive collection to answer reference questions and locate materials for customers. Staffs reference desk and works circulation desk at times, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Performs outreach and promotes library services. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. Assists in the development and maintenance of a special collection requiring specialized handling, security, and writing of finding aids.
Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the history of America and the African-American experience, including Denver, Colorado and the Western United States. Knowledge of print and electronic information retrieval. Skill in presenting information, both orally and in writing, especially for training library customers in the use of electronic resources. Ability to work with diverse groups of all ages, including elementary, middle, and high school students. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and ages. Ability to have a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and the community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to be highly organized and pay attention to detail.

Education: Masterís in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or planning to receive one by July 1, 2013.

Experience: Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service required. Experience providing reference services and working in a library with a special collection including the processing of archival materials required.

Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made.
