Lead Circulation Clerk - Virginia Village Branch Library 5.10.13

Description:Location: Virginia Village Branch Library, 1500 S. Dahlia St. at E. Florida Ave.

Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.
Duties:Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers by checking out and returning books, registering customers for library cards and responding to customer questions and issues about circulation matters. Assists with the direction, training, and supervision of clerical staff. Supports the Library’s strategic initiatives of providing early literacy experiences to infants through preschoolers and developing school-age readers and life-long learners.

Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Skill in operating computers, working with attention to detail, and making simple mathematical computations. Skill in providing leadership. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to help select, train, motivate and lead clerical staff. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Experience: One year of experience in library circulation, including experience providing customer service and resolving customer issues. Proven initiative in prior positions is a must.

Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Spanish fluency is preferred, but not required.

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
